School For The Deaf Appeals For Help

ENACTUS Team of CUCG Presenting the items to the Headmistress
Headmistress for Bechem School of the Deaf, Veronica Ayeh, is calling on individuals, philanthropists and government to come to the aid of the school to provide them with dormitories for boys and girls and classrooms for basic and technical school.
According to her, the number of students at the school has increased and this has called for the construction of more classrooms and dormitories in the school to provide the students with the best of education they require.
Ms. Ayeh said the school is solely run by the government so they have problems with the provision of food and other things needed to run the affairs of the school.
She spoke to pressmen when student branch of Entrepreneurial Action In Us (ENACTUS) from the Catholic University College of Ghana, Fiapre presented items to the school to help the students boost their knowledge in entrepreneurial skills.
Ms. Ayeh said the school has a population of 461 with 180 girls and 281 boys with a teacher population of 100. “The school needs help from anyone that is ready to help these special children to move on in life”, she added.
She was worried about the way some parents are still keeping their children away from the school to acquire knowledge.
The President of the team, Kennedy Amenu, said the group trained the students on how to make bags, footwear, arm bags/band and also trained them on how to make drink from herbicus plants popularly known in Ghana as ‘sobolo’ because of its nutritional value that can help boost their immune system. “It can help them generate funds for themselves”, he added.
He said the training of the ‘special’ students was part of their project as entrepreneurial students. The students provided them with tie and dye, the herbicus plants and robbers that will be used to keep the drink.
Mr. Amenu promised that the team will continue to help the school in improving their entrepreneurial skills.
