Chief Fights MCE

Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku
The Omanhene of Mim Traditional Area, Okofrobuo Nana Dr. Yaw Agyei, has expressed his disappointment over the reappointment of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku.
The Omanhene who conveyed an emergency meeting upon the re-nomination of the MCE to deliberate on the nomination said the MCE has occupied the Asunafo North seat for three times but has not brought any development to the people in the area.
This was contained in a press statement released after the emergency meeting to deliberate on the nomination of the MCE.
According to him, the MCE’s leadership position has been divisive and not conducive to team building, a recipe for disaster in development and a better Ghana.
Okofrobuo Agyei further mentioned that, Mim an industrial center in the Brong Ahafo Region, and the largest and most populated town in the municipality, has suffered considerably under the MCE’s administration. “A third term will only make a bad situation worse”, he added.
The release noted that the MCE is disrespectful of Nananom and has refused to meet the Nananon of the Mim Traditional Area for the past four years. “The most recent invitation to meet with Nananom was on 28th June, 2013 which he refused”, the release mentioned.
The release also accused the MCE of his intentions to cause environmental damage by constructing an abattoir in the midst of a stream (kokoteasua) in Mim against the protests of EPA and Mim Town Council.
He also accused the MCE of refusing to inaugurate the urban council now zonal council for the past four years, further stating that the MCE has formed a new one without consulting Nananon.
“He has also appointed a chairman who is litigating with Omanhene in the court”, it’s said. The release also accused the MCE of his serious involvement in chieftaincy affairs in Mim Ahafo area.
The release said the MCE, Alhaji Doku, has two times contested the MP seat, where the people, with good reasons, have two times soundly rejected him. It continued that nominating and confirming him as MCE would be against the will of the people of Asunafo North. It would be counter to development and better Ghana.
“We pray to all parties involved in the nomination and confirmation process of the MCE for Asunafo North Municipality to seriously consider the plea and voices of Nananom and the people”, it added.
