MP Worried About Abandon Road

MP Worried About Abandon Road

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, has expressed worry over abandon roads in his constituency capital and has promised to follow up at the Ministry of Roads to know why the contractor has abandoned the project.
According to him, the project was not on the budget that was presented in parliament and this has given him room to worry. He was however quick to add that if the government wants to execute the project they can do it on the special projects.
The MP who is also the Deputy Minority Chief Whip spoke to Daily Guide after he visited Odumase the Sunyani West District capital to see the progress on the road which was started by the NDC government in October 2012. He said the Minster of roads who was present at the sod cut ceremony promised to complete within three months from the day of the sod cutting.
Mr. Baffour-Awuah who complained about bad roads in his constituency called on the government to come to the aid of his constituents and help fix the roads. “My constituency has one of the bad roads in the country”, he retorted.

The MP used the opportunity to call on the people in his constituency to stay calm as he contacts the right authorities to help fix the roads.
He promised to meet the youth who had earlier threatened to demonstrate against the government and the District Assembly to talk to them to give him time to talk to the sector minister to address their concerns.
“I understand their frustration because my car nearly got stuck this morning when I used the road, but they should exercise patience”, he added.
Meanwhile, some residents of Odumase who spoke to Daily Guide said it is difficult for them to go out in the night because of the various pits the contractor has created on some parts of the roads. “It’s difficult for us to step out in the night especially when it rains because the place becomes muddy”, one resident who gave her name as Ivy mentioned.
Ms. Ivy who seemed worried about the progress of the road called on the contractor to come back and close the pits he constructed on the roads so they can move freely in the town without the fear of falling into the pits.
She called on the Assembly not to wait for their children to fall into the pits and die before they will do something about the road.
