The
central business centre of the Brong Ahafo Regional Capital, Sunyani
went dead at exactly 11:00am on Tuesday morning when the Supreme Court
began proceedings on the election petition case involving Nana Addo and
the NDC.
Many people in the street were seen rushing to their offices and homes to watch the proceedings on the television and radio.
A
visit to some of the offices at the big cocoa house office complex in
Sunyani saw workers busily watching the proceedings whilst others were
glued to their radio sets.
When Daily Guide visited the Regional
Headquarters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the executives and some
members of the party were glued to the television sets with their pens
and papers writing.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Secretary of the
NPP, Alfred Ofori Annye, applauded the Chief Justice, Georgina Theodora
Wood, for approving the telecast of the proceedings.
According to
him, they are happy with the proceedings so far and hope everything
goes on well as planned. “We are optimistic because our leaders have
shown us the evidence that we have a real case to battle in court”, he
added.
He also mentioned that, the party has sensitise it people
in the region to the importance of staying calm as their leaders battle
the case in court.
“Our supporters have been educated on what our
leaders are doing so they won’t do anything to mar the beauty of
democracy the NPP has championed all this years”, he opined.
Some
residents this reporter spoke to seemed excited about the live telecast
and said they believed it would give way for everyone to cherish the
beautiful democracy Ghanaians were practising.
